How The Battle Of Marathon Was Won By Greeks

By Helen Long

There are nothing more interesting than to learn the history of the past. This is essential. History is mean to repeat itself. Unless you use it as a guide to change the future, nothing new will take place. Knowing the past is essential not only for historians but also for political and public service employees. The old civilization can teach you a lot of things about human mistakes and natural phenomenon that greatly change the course of the history.

Among with the most legendary stories in the history, the Persian and Greek War is one of the most interesting. Especially during the Battle of Marathon. Greeks are not raised for battles. They were highly known for their credible mind and logical thinking. That is why, when King Darius tried to siege their kingdom, these people are put at a great disadvantage.

Unlike the Army of Persia, they do not have the right number of people who are highly capable of being called as a soldier. They do not have the tools and resources to fight back. They are just a small nation compared to Persia. They are outnumbered. Not only in terms of people but also when it comes to weapons and battle gears.

Right after the Persian camp on the coast of Marathon, Greek generals tried to rely on some help from Sparta. Unlike Greece, Sparta has lots of men who are capable of fighting. They have tools and horses needed for the war. Their help was used to be their only ray of hope.

Greek people, on the other hand, does not have any trained soldiers for the war. They lack the manpower and even the horses to pursue their enemy. Truly, in order to win it, they would be needing a miracle. Wherever you look at it, these small country are bound to be capture.

This is how things turn out to be. To begin with, the situation is too unfavorable to Greece. The enemy thought so too. They underestimated the Greek Army too much. As a proof, they even load their horses back on their ship. That certain moment gives the Greek army an opportunity to start. With a credible wing formation, they set the Persian army into a trap.

They create an approach they never experienced before. These people created a ring in which they can manipulate the battleground to their advantage. Even the archers cannot make any single move knowing that they would only hit their own people under the battle field. Guts, luck, and amazing induction skill are the qualities that bring these people into victory.

That way of thinking put this army down. It caught them off guard. After the night comes, these people try to load back all their horses and chariots on the ship. Fortunately, the Greece army took advantage of this opportunity. After the right time to charge comes, they march towards the enemy territory under a fast pace.

They approach the army with new types of pace and wing formation. Startled, it leaves the enemy with no choice but to get confused. In the battlefield where you are betting your life on the line, every second matters. It is too late for them to react and visualize the situation. Even their archers are left paralyzed. They cannot shoot while hitting both the Greek and their own people. Truly, that simple mistakes had lead to the victory of Greece.
